"Beautiful, mysterious, bewitching or luminous, but always very present, the Belledonne range gives any person who looks at it with respect a really breathtaking sight." L.Montico
The Belledonne range stretches from North to South over a distance of sixty kilometres between Grenoble and Chambéry. Reaching up to nearly 3,000 metres in altitude (Grand Pic de Belledonne 2,977 m), it looks out over the valley of the Grésivaudan.
Wild and picturesque, this deep brown and white "sierra" gives the town of Grenoble one of the most beautiful backdrops in the Isère Alps. This majestic rocky barrier represents the strength and the unity of the resorts which are huddled in the heart of the range.
In the Belledonne Range there are two spas, Allevard-Les-Bains and Uriage-Les-Bains, three winter and summer sports resorts, Chamrousse, Les 7 Laux and Le Collet d'Allevard, and two areas given over to cross-country skiing, Le Barioz and L'Arselle.
The Belledonne range offers a wide variety of aspects and a considerable number of activities, whether cultural, sporting or recreational.
Its heritage invites you to get away and dream, as you explore the areas of Allevard, Theys, Les 7 Laux, Uriage-Les-Bains or of Chamrousse.
The panoramic road, which twists and turns for 65 kilometres from small towns to villages and from villages to resorts, offers a superb unrestricted view over the Grésivaudan valley and the Vercors and Chartreuse ranges.
If these slopes are the « heads » side of the Belladonne range, the range also has its « tails » side, represented by the Val Gelon, the Vallée des Huiles, the Vallée des Villards and the River d'Allemont.
What we suggest that you come and see are people, landscapes and a mountain-based way of life.
